Therapeutic Indications
- Leprosy as part of multidrug therapy (MDT)
- Dermatitis herpetiformis
- Acne vulgaris with comedones, papules and pustules
- Maintenance therapy to prevent acne recurrence
Mechanism of Action
Dapsone — Dapsone inhibits bacterial folate synthesis by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid, suppressing Mycobacterium leprae. It also inhibits neutrophil myeloperoxidase, giving anti-inflammatory effects in certain skin diseases.
Adapalene — Binds selectively to retinoic acid receptors in the skin, normalising differentiation of follicular cells to reduce comedone formation, and exerts anti-inflammatory effects.
Combining these ingredients in one gel provides complementary action on the target condition and simplifies therapy compared with taking the components separately.
