About Calcirut Soft Gel Capsule
Calcirut Soft Gel Capsule combines Calcitriol 0.25 mcg (the active form of Vitamin D3) with Calcium Citrate 500 mg and Zinc Oxide in a soft gelatin format. The active vitamin D form ensures immediate biological activity without requiring renal 1-alpha-hydroxylation — particularly valuable in elderly patients and those with chronic kidney disease where vitamin D activation is impaired.
Calcium Citrate offers superior bioavailability compared to calcium carbonate, particularly in patients with reduced gastric acid (elderly, PPI users). Mechanism of Action
Calcitriol is the biologically active form of vitamin D3 that does not require renal 1-alpha-hydroxylation — it acts directly on vitamin D receptors to increase intestinal calcium absorption, renal calcium reabsorption and osteoclast/osteoblast bone turnover. Calcium Citrate provides calcium that's well absorbed independent of gastric pH. Zinc cofactors alkaline phosphatase and osteoblast function.

Side Effects
Mild GI upset, constipation. Rare: hypercalcaemia with excessive dosing — monitor serum calcium periodically. Hypersensitivity reactions.

Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcaemia. Hyperparathyroidism. Severe renal impairment without monitoring. Concurrent thiazide diuretics may potentiate hypercalcaemia risk.
