Mechanism of Action
Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid, 5-ASA) is the active anti-inflammatory metabolite of sulfasalazine — locally inhibits COX, lipoxygenase, NF-κB, and scavenges reactive oxygen species in inflamed bowel mucosa. Delivered via pH-dependent or time-dependent coating to target colon (UC) or distal ileum (Crohn's).
