About Makclav-1.2 Injection

Makclav-1.2 Injection delivers Amoxicillin 1000 mg + Clavulanic Acid 200 mg IV — the standard IV beta-lactam combination for hospitalised patients with severe infections, surgical prophylaxis, and infections requiring high tissue penetration.

Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.

Indications

  • Severe community-acquired pneumonia
  • Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis
  • Complicated UTI
  • Severe skin/soft-tissue infection
  • Intra-abdominal infection (adjunct)

Mechanism of Action

Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1.2 g IV every 8 hours (severe) or every 12 hours (moderate).

Side Effects

Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis. Injection site reactions, thrombophlebitis.

Contraindications & Precautions

Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).

Storage

Store between 2–25 °C. Use immediately after reconstitution.
