About Calimac Tablet

Calimac Tablet provides Calcium Carbonate 1250 mg (equivalent to elemental calcium 500 mg) — meeting half the daily calcium RDA in a single tablet. The high elemental calcium content makes Calimac particularly suitable for patients requiring substantial calcium supplementation, including post-menopausal women, those on long-term corticosteroids, and patients with CKD-related bone disease.

Calcium Carbonate is also widely used in chronic kidney disease as a phosphate binder, where its calcium content provides dual benefit. This positions Calimac as a workhorse calcium supplement for general practice, gynaecology, orthopaedics and nephrology.

Calimac is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a flagship cross-specialty calcium SKU.

Indications

  • Osteoporosis and bone-density maintenance
  • Post-menopausal calcium supplementation
  • Long-term corticosteroid use (osteoporosis prophylaxis)
  • Chronic kidney disease (phosphate binder)
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Hypocalcaemia

Mechanism of Action

Calcium Carbonate releases calcium ions in the acidic gastric environment. Absorption occurs via active vitamin D-dependent transport and passive paracellular diffusion in the small intestine. In CKD, dietary calcium carbonate also binds intestinal phosphate, reducing phosphate absorption and supporting CKD-MBD management.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1 tablet once or twice daily after meals (with food for best absorption). In CKD as phosphate binder: 1 tablet with each meal as directed by nephrologist.

Side Effects

Constipation, bloating, flatulence. Possible hypercalcaemia with high-dose use — monitor serum calcium. Rare: milk-alkali syndrome with very high doses + alkalinising agents.

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcaemia. Hyperparathyroidism. Severe renal impairment without monitoring. Concurrent thiazide diuretics (potentiation of hypercalcaemia).

Storage

Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
