About Dotorac Suspension
Dotorac Suspension contains Racecadotril 10 mg per 5 ml — an enkephalinase inhibitor that selectively reduces intestinal hypersecretion of water and electrolytes without affecting intestinal motility. Unique anti-diarrhoeal that doesn’t cause constipation rebound seen with loperamide.
Particularly useful in acute paediatric diarrhoea (viral gastroenteritis) where reducing fluid loss is essential but motility-slowing agents are best avoided. Used alongside ORS and dietary measures.

Mechanism of Action
Racecadotril is a prodrug hydrolysed to thiorphan, which inhibits enkephalinase. This prolongs the action of endogenous enkephalins on intestinal opioid receptors, reducing intestinal hypersecretion without affecting motility.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 1.5 mg/kg three times daily for up to 7 days. Adults: 100 mg three times daily.
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Occasional rash. Rare hypersensitivity.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Bacterial dysentery with fever (use only after assessment).
