About Makclav-600 Injection
Makclav-600 Injection delivers Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic Acid 100 mg IV — the standard adult unit-dose IV vial. Most commonly prescribed strength for hospitalised infections.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Community-acquired pneumonia (hospitalised)
- Complicated UTI
- Cellulitis with systemic features
- Surgical prophylaxis
- Diabetic foot infection (adjunct)
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 600 mg IV every 6–8 hours.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).
Storage
Store 2–25 °C. Use immediately after reconstitution.
