About Makclav-Kid 228.5 DT
Makclav-Kid 228.5 DT provides Amoxicillin 200 mg + Clavulanic Acid 28.5 mg as paediatric dispersible tablets — alternative to dry syrup for older children. Stable formulation with longer shelf life than reconstituted syrups.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Older paediatric patients
- Patients preferring tablet over syrup
- Travel/storage-sensitive prescriptions
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 1 dispersible tablet every 8–12 hours, weight-adjusted.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
