About Makclav-LB Dry Syrup
Makclav-LB Dry Syrup adds Lactobacillus probiotic to the paediatric Amox-Clav combination — reducing antibiotic-associated diarrhoea which affects 20–30% of children on Amox-Clav. Particularly valuable in infants and toddlers prone to diarrhoea.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Paediatric infections with diarrhoea risk
- Children with prior antibiotic-associated diarrhoea
- Infants on Amox-Clav therapy
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes. Lactobacillus restores commensal flora reducing C. difficile risk and supporting gut barrier function.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 25–45 mg/kg/day Amoxicillin component twice daily.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis. (reduced diarrhoea due to probiotic).
Contraindications & Precautions
Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).
Storage
Refrigerate after reconstitution. Use within 7 days.
