About Makclav-625 LB Tablet
Makclav-625 LB Tablet adds Lactobacillus probiotic spores to the Amoxicillin + Clavulanate combination — reducing antibiotic-associated diarrhoea which is the most common adverse effect (especially Clavulanate-related). Available in regular and Akums-sourced variants.
Lactobacillus restores intestinal microbiota disrupted by broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Patients with prior antibiotic-associated diarrhoea
- Elderly on antibiotic therapy
- Longer courses (>7 days)
- Patients with IBS or sensitive gut
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes. Lactobacillus spores recolonise gut commensals after antibiotic-induced dysbiosis.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet every 12 hours.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis. (reduced diarrhoea due to probiotic).
Contraindications & Precautions
Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
