Mechanism of Action
Piroxicam is an oxicam-class NSAID — non-selective COX-1/COX-2 inhibitor with long half-life (~50 hours) allowing once-daily dosing. Effective in rheumatic and inflammatory conditions but higher GI toxicity than newer NSAIDs.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 20–40 mg IM once daily, switch to oral after 2 days.

- GI upset, peptic ulcer, fluid retention, hypertension, photosensitivity, headache.

Contraindications
- Active peptic ulcer, severe heart failure, third trimester pregnancy, severe renal/hepatic impairment, aspirin-sensitive asthma.
