About Cofar-XL Junior Syrup (60ml)
Cofar-XL Junior Syrup combines Ambroxol 15 mg + Levosulbutamol 0.5 mg + Guaifenesin per 5 ml. The ‘XL’ formulation replaces Terbutaline with Levosulbutamol — the R-enantiomer of salbutamol with comparable bronchodilation and significantly fewer cardiac side effects (tremor, tachycardia) than the racemic mixture.
Used for productive cough with bronchospasm in young children — particularly when minimising tremor and palpitations is important. The junior strength is dosed appropriately for younger children.
Cofar-XL Junior is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Paediatric productive cough with bronchospasm
- Acute bronchitis with wheezing
- Mild paediatric asthma exacerbations
- Cough with bronchospasm preferring lower cardiac side effects
Mechanism of Action
Ambroxol reduces mucus viscosity. Levosulbutamol selectively activates β2 receptors with fewer cardiac effects than racemic salbutamol. Guaifenesin enhances mucus clearance.
Dosage & Administration
Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml three times daily. Children 6–12 years: 5 ml three times daily.
Side Effects
Less tremor and palpitations than Terbutaline-containing syrups. Mild nausea.
