About Budemide-0.5 Respules (4 x 5 Pack)
Budemide-0.5 Respules contain Budesonide 0.5 mg in 2 ml as a single-dose nebuliser solution. Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) widely used in the management of bronchial asthma, croup (laryngotracheobronchitis), allergic bronchitis and wheezy episodes in children and adults. The 4 x 5 pack offers 20 respules — a typical 10-day course at twice-daily dosing.
Budesonide acts locally on airway mucosa to reduce inflammation, mucosal oedema and mucus hypersecretion that drive asthma symptoms. Its high topical potency and rapid hepatic first-pass metabolism (when systemic) result in strong local effect with minimal systemic glucocorticoid exposure — a key advantage in long-term paediatric and adult asthma care.
Budemide-0.5 Respules are manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-volume respiratory SKU.
Indications
- Maintenance therapy of bronchial asthma in adults and children > 6 months
- Acute asthma exacerbations (adjunct to bronchodilator)
- Mild-to-moderate croup (laryngotracheobronchitis)
- Allergic bronchitis with wheezing
- Subglottic oedema and laryngeal inflammation (specialist use)
Mechanism of Action
Budesonide binds intracellular glucocorticoid receptors in airway epithelial and inflammatory cells. The activated receptor complex enters the nucleus and modulates gene transcription — increasing anti-inflammatory protein expression (annexin-1, IκB) and suppressing pro-inflammatory gene expression (cytokines, chemokines, COX-2). This reduces eosinophil and lymphocyte recruitment, mucosal oedema and bronchial hyperreactivity.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 respule (0.5 mg) twice daily by nebulisation; maximum 2 mg/day. Children 6 months–12 years: 0.25–0.5 mg twice daily. Croup: single 2 mg dose by nebulisation. Use a jet or ultrasonic nebuliser with mouthpiece or face mask. Rinse mouth after use.
Side Effects
Local: oral candidiasis (rinse mouth after use to prevent), dysphonia, throat irritation. Systemic (rare at standard doses): adrenal suppression, growth retardation (prolonged paediatric use at high doses), cataracts, decreased bone density. Rare: hypersensitivity, paradoxical bronchospasm.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to budesonide. Active untreated respiratory tract infection (use only under medical supervision). Hypersensitivity to milk proteins (some formulations). Severe paradoxical bronchospasm.
