Mechanism of Action
Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic lysine analogue that reversibly binds plasminogen lysine binding sites — preventing plasminogen activation and fibrinolysis. Reduces blood loss in menorrhagia, surgical bleeding, trauma (CRASH-2 trial), and post-partum haemorrhage (WOMAN trial).
Dosage & Administration

Side Effects
GI upset, headache, dizziness. Rare visual disturbances. VTE risk theoretical but not increased in major trials.
Contraindications & Precautions
Active VTE, severe renal impairment, subarachnoid haemorrhage (theoretical), colour vision disturbance, history of seizures.
