About Carzone-300 Tablet
Carzone-300 Tablet contains Oxcarbazepine 300 mg, a second-generation sodium channel blocker antiepileptic. It is approved as monotherapy and adjunctive therapy for focal-onset seizures with or without secondary generalisation in adults and children, and is widely used off-label as a mood stabiliser in bipolar disorder.
Oxcarbazepine is the keto analogue of carbamazepine with significantly fewer drug-drug interactions (less hepatic enzyme induction) and a better safety profile — particularly regarding aplastic anaemia and severe skin reactions. It does not require routine therapeutic drug monitoring, simplifying long-term management.
Carzone-300 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a specialty neurology SKU.
Indications
- Focal-onset epilepsy (monotherapy and adjunctive)
- Partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Bipolar disorder maintenance (off-label)
- Neuropathic pain (adjunct, off-label)
Mechanism of Action
Oxcarbazepine and its active metabolite 10-monohydroxy derivative (MHD) block voltage-sensitive sodium channels in a use- and frequency-dependent manner. This stabilises hyperexcitable neuronal membranes, reduces sustained repetitive firing and dampens propagation of synaptic impulses in epileptic foci.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 600 mg/day in two divided doses initially, titrated to clinical response up to 2400 mg/day. Reduce dose in renal impairment. Slowly taper when discontinuing.
Side Effects
Dizziness, somnolence, headache, fatigue, nausea, double vision. Hyponatraemia (common — monitor sodium periodically), skin rash, rare severe cutaneous reactions (SJS/TEN). Drug interactions: induces some CYP enzymes (less than carbamazepine).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or carbamazepine. Severe AV block. Caution in HLA-B*1502 positive patients (Asian ancestry) due to skin reaction risk. Pregnancy — only if essential.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
