Mechanism of Action
Mefenamic Acid is a fenamate-class NSAID — non-selective COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitor with additional antagonism at peripheral prostaglandin receptors. Particularly effective for menorrhagia and primary dysmenorrhoea due to additional effect on endometrial prostaglandin signalling. Paracetamol central antipyretic / analgesic effect.
Dosage & Administration
Older children: 1 tablet every 8 hours, weight-adjusted.
Side Effects
GI upset, dyspepsia, diarrhoea (common with Mefenamic), peptic ulcer, headache, dizziness, drowsiness.
