About Carbizoid-10 Tablet
Carbizoid-10 Tablet contains Carbimazole 10 mg — the standard adult induction strength for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease. The 10 mg strength is widely used for initial control of thyrotoxicosis before stepping down to maintenance doses.
Carbimazole inhibits thyroid peroxidase, blocking new thyroid hormone synthesis. The 10 mg dose two to three times daily provides rapid normalisation of free T4 in 4–8 weeks, after which the dose is titrated down to a 5–10 mg/day maintenance.
Carbizoid-10 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Induction therapy of Graves' hyperthyroidism
- Toxic nodular goitre
- Iodine-induced hyperthyroidism
- Preoperative thyroid preparation
- Pre-radioiodine preparation
Mechanism of Action
Carbimazole is converted to methimazole, which inhibits thyroid peroxidase to block iodination and coupling of tyrosine residues — preventing new T4/T3 synthesis. Clinical effect takes 2–4 weeks as preformed hormone stores deplete.
Dosage & Administration
Induction: 20–40 mg daily in two to three divided doses for 4–8 weeks. Titrate down to 5–15 mg/day maintenance based on TFT response.
Side Effects
Rash, pruritus, GI upset, taste disturbance. Serious rare: agranulocytosis (sore throat/fever), hepatotoxicity, vasculitis. Mandatory counselling about reporting fever, sore throat, jaundice.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic disease. Bone marrow suppression. Pregnancy first trimester (use PTU). Bone marrow toxicity history with thionamides.
