About Cetimac Syrup (60ml)
Cetimac Syrup contains Cetirizine 5 mg per 5 ml — one of the most widely used paediatric antihistamines globally. Cetirizine is a second-generation H1 antihistamine with low sedation potential, fast onset and 24-hour duration of action, making it convenient for once-daily dosing in children with allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis with itch.
While Bilastine is increasingly used as a less-sedating alternative, Cetirizine remains a cost-effective first-line antihistamine across India with extensive paediatric safety data.
Cetimac Syrup is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-volume paediatric SKU.
Indications
- Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial)
- Chronic urticaria
- Atopic dermatitis with significant itch
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Symptom relief in pediatric allergies
Mechanism of Action
Cetirizine selectively antagonises peripheral H1 histamine receptors, preventing histamine-mediated vasodilation, vascular permeability and sensory nerve stimulation. Minimal CNS penetration compared with first-generation antihistamines limits sedation.
Dosage & Administration
Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml once daily or 1.25 ml twice daily. Children 6–12 years: 5 ml once daily or 2.5 ml twice daily. Children > 12 years: 10 ml once daily. As advised by paediatrician.
Side Effects
Mild drowsiness (more than newer agents like bilastine), dry mouth, headache, fatigue. Rare hypersensitivity.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cetirizine or hydroxyzine. Severe renal impairment requires dose adjustment.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light.
