Mechanism of Action
Phenylephrine is alpha-1 adrenergic agonist causing nasal mucosal vasoconstriction relieving congestion. Chlorpheniramine Maleate (CPM) is first-generation H1 antihistamine blocking histamine-mediated allergic responses (sneezing, runny nose, itching). Combination provides comprehensive symptomatic relief in common cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 10 ml three times daily. Children: 5 ml twice or thrice daily.
Side Effects
Drowsiness (CPM), dry mouth, urinary retention, mild palpitations (Phenylephrine), insomnia in some children.
Contraindications & Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, BPH with urinary retention, severe hypertension, on MAO inhibitors, infants <2 years (relative).
