About Macral-S Shampoo
Macral-S Shampoo combines Ketoconazole 2% w/v with Salicylic Acid 2% w/v in a medicated shampoo. The keratolytic action of salicylic acid removes thick scaling, allowing better penetration of ketoconazole into the affected hair follicles and scalp.
Indicated for scalp psoriasis (mild), severe seborrhoeic scalp dermatitis with thick crusting, pityriasis amiantacea and recalcitrant dandruff.

Mechanism of Action
Ketoconazole inhibits fungal 14-α-demethylase, blocking conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of toxic sterol intermediates disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity, producing fungistatic and fungicidal effect. Particularly active against Malassezia (seborrhoeic dermatitis, tinea versicolor) and dermatophytes. Salicylic Acid is a beta-hydroxy keratolytic that softens and dissolves stratum corneum keratin, removing scale and crust and allowing ketoconazole to reach the active Malassezia in the hair follicles.
