Mechanism of Action
Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits cytochrome P450-dependent 14-α-demethylase, blocking the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. The depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of toxic methylated sterol precursors disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity. Broad spectrum activity against dermatophytes, yeasts and dimorphic fungi.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: as advised by dermatologist — typically 100–200 mg twice daily for 1 week 'pulse' regimens
- Take with food for better absorption
- Monitor LFTs if prolonged use

- Hepatotoxicity (rare; monitor LFTs)
