About Makclav Drops
Makclav Drops deliver Amoxicillin 80 mg + Clavulanic Acid 11.4 mg per ml — concentrated infant drops allowing precise weight-based dosing in babies and toddlers.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Infant otitis media
- Infant lower respiratory tract infection
- Infant skin/soft-tissue infection
- Weight-precise dosing in infants
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam (aminopenicillin) that binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inhibiting bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor — irreversibly inactivates bacterial beta-lactamases protecting Amoxicillin from enzymatic hydrolysis. The combination extends Amoxicillin's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, and many anaerobes.
Dosage & Administration
Infants: weight-based dose 25–45 mg/kg/day of Amoxicillin divided 12-hourly.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (more common than amoxicillin alone — Clavulanate-related), GI upset, rash, candidiasis. Cholestatic hepatitis (rare). C. difficile colitis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Penicillin/cephalosporin hypersensitivity, history of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate-induced jaundice or hepatic dysfunction, infectious mononucleosis (rash), severe renal impairment (dose adjust).
Storage
Reconstituted: refrigerate, use within 7 days.
