About Bacofer-20 Tablet
Bacofer-20 Tablet contains Baclofen 20 mg — the mid-strength tablet used for patients who have titrated past the 10 mg dose and require stronger anti-spasticity coverage. The 20 mg strength is the standard maintenance dose for moderate spasticity in multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and post-stroke patients.
Baclofen acts as a selective GABA-B agonist in the spinal cord, suppressing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters at reflex pathways and reducing muscle tone. Compared with peripheral muscle relaxants, Baclofen specifically targets the central component of spasticity — making it the agent of choice for upper-motor-neuron-derived hypertonia.
Bacofer-20 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions and is available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Moderate-to-severe spasticity in multiple sclerosis
- Spasticity following spinal cord injury
- Cerebral palsy with significant hypertonia
- Post-stroke spasticity
- Spasticity in motor neuron disease
Mechanism of Action
Baclofen activates spinal GABA-B receptors, hyperpolarising interneurons and inhibiting excitatory neurotransmitter release at reflex pathways. The 20 mg strength achieves higher spinal Baclofen concentrations for moderate-to-severe spasticity while maintaining a generally tolerable side-effect profile.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 20 mg three times daily (titrate up from 10 mg three times daily). Maximum 80 mg/day. Reduce dose in renal impairment. Discontinue gradually.

Drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, nausea, fatigue, dry mouth. Higher dose may increase confusion in elderly, constipation, urinary frequency. Avoid abrupt withdrawal (risk of seizures, hallucinations).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to baclofen. Active peptic ulcer. Severe renal impairment. Caution in elderly, respiratory disease, history of seizures. Avoid alcohol and sedatives.
