About K-Bar Sachet
K-Bar Sachet provides Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate 15 g — a cation-exchange resin for treatment of hyperkalaemia in chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury. Calcium variant avoids sodium loading vs Sodium Polystyrene Sulphonate.
First-line for chronic mild-moderate hyperkalaemia (K+ 5.5–6.5) when dietary modification is inadequate.

Mechanism of Action
Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate is a non-absorbed cation-exchange resin — exchanges calcium for potassium in the gut, lowering serum potassium. Each gram binds about 1.0–1.3 mEq potassium. Effect over 12–24 hours; faster with rectal use.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 15 g once or twice daily in water/syrup. Continue till K+ normalises.
Side Effects
Constipation, faecal impaction (give with sorbitol), hypercalcaemia, hypokalaemia (if overdosed).
Contraindications & Precautions
Bowel obstruction, hypercalcaemia, history of bowel ischemia. Caution in elderly (impaction risk).
