About Tusar-AM Tablet
Tusar-AM Tablet combines Losartan 50 mg with Amlodipine 5 mg — preferred ARB + CCB combination for hypertension inadequately controlled on monotherapy. Synergistic mechanisms with reduced peripheral oedema vs Amlodipine alone.
Manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP.
Indications
- Hypertension inadequately controlled on monotherapy
- Hypertension with high CV risk
- Diabetic hypertension
Mechanism of Action
Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) — selectively blocks AT1 receptors causing vasodilation, reducing aldosterone secretion, and lowering blood pressure. Lower-cost first-generation ARB with strong evidence in diabetic nephropathy (RENAAL trial). Amlodipine is dihydropyridine CCB providing peripheral arterial vasodilation.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet once daily.
Side Effects
Dizziness, hyperkalaemia, increased creatinine, angioedema (rare), cough (less than ACE inhibitors). Peripheral oedema, flushing, headache (Amlodipine — reduced when combined with ARB).
Contraindications & Precautions
Pregnancy (teratogenic), bilateral renal artery stenosis, severe hepatic impairment, hyperkalaemia. Severe aortic stenosis, severe hypotension.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
