About Trumac ORS Sachet

Trumac ORS Sachet is a WHO/UNICEF low-osmolarity oral rehydration formulation. Each sachet contains Sodium Chloride 2.6 g, Potassium Chloride 1.5 g, Sodium Citrate 2.9 g and Dextrose Anhydrous 13.5 g, providing complete replacement of fluid and electrolytes lost in acute diarrhoea or dehydration.

The low-osmolarity formula (245 mOsm/L) has been shown to reduce stool volume, vomiting and need for IV fluids compared to the older WHO formula. It is suitable for all ages from infants to elderly.

Trumac Healthcare manufactures Trumac ORS under WHO-GMP conditions for PCD pharma franchise across India.

Indications

  • Acute diarrhoea with dehydration (all causes)
  • Vomiting with fluid loss
  • Cholera
  • Heat exhaustion and excessive sweating
  • Maintenance hydration during high-fever illness

Mechanism of Action

ORS exploits the sodium-glucose coupled transport in the intestinal brush border: glucose facilitates Na+ absorption via SGLT1, water follows osmotically. Sodium citrate corrects metabolic acidosis of diarrhoea by liberating bicarbonate; potassium chloride replaces stool-loss potassium. The reduced osmolarity formula (245 mOsm/L) avoids the osmotic diarrhoea seen with older hypertonic preparations.

Dosage & Administration

['Dissolve 1 sachet in 1 litre of clean drinking water', 'Adults: drink 200–400 ml after each loose stool', 'Children (under 2 years): 50–100 ml after each loose stool', 'Discard reconstituted solution after 24 hours']

Side Effects

['Generally well tolerated', 'Hypernatraemia if prepared with insufficient water', 'Mild nausea occasionally']

Contraindications & Precautions

['Intestinal obstruction', 'Paralytic ileus', 'Severe persistent vomiting (consider IV fluids)', 'Severe renal failure with anuria']

Storage

Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
