About Claricam-500 Injection
Claricam-500 Injection provides Clarithromycin 500 mg parenteral for severe respiratory tract infections, severe Legionella pneumonia, severe Mycoplasma pneumonia and hospitalised patients who cannot tolerate oral antibiotics. The IV form is also used for empirical coverage of atypical pathogens in severe community-acquired pneumonia (combined with a beta-lactam).
Strictly hospital use under medical supervision. Typically used for 2–7 days IV, then stepped down to oral Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily to complete the course.

Mechanism of Action
Clarithromycin is a 14-membered macrolide that binds the 50S bacterial ribosomal subunit, inhibiting peptidyl transferase and protein synthesis. Bacteriostatic against most organisms but bactericidal at high concentrations against susceptible species. Active against most respiratory pathogens including atypicals (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Legionella) and H. pylori.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 500 mg every 12 hours by slow IV infusion (over 60 minutes) for 2–5 days. Switch to oral when clinical improvement allows. Strictly hospital use.

Local infusion-site pain, phlebitis, all oral clarithromycin side effects.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to macrolides. Severe hepatic impairment. Concurrent ergot alkaloids, pimozide, cisapride, lovastatin/simvastatin (severe interactions). History of QT prolongation. Caution in renal impairment.
