About Medicort-125 Injection

Mechanism of Action
Methylprednisolone is an intermediate-acting synthetic glucocorticoid — binds intracellular glucocorticoid receptor which translocates to nucleus modifying transcription of inflammatory and immunological genes. Suppresses cytokine production, reduces capillary permeability, stabilises lysosomal membranes, blocks leukocyte recruitment. ~5x more potent than hydrocortisone with minimal mineralocorticoid activity.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 125 mg IV/IM, may repeat every 6 hours. High-dose protocols up to 1 g/day for 3 days.
Side Effects
Hyperglycaemia, hypokalaemia, hypertension, fluid retention, immunosuppression, neuropsychiatric effects (insomnia, mood changes), Cushingoid appearance, osteoporosis (long-term), avascular necrosis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Systemic fungal infections, live vaccine administration, untreated severe infections. Caution in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer, glaucoma, osteoporosis, pregnancy, breastfeeding.
