Mechanism of Action
Acarbose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor — competitively inhibits intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes that break down complex carbohydrates. Reduces post-prandial glucose spikes without causing hypoglycaemia in monotherapy.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 50 mg three times daily with first bite of each main meal.
Side Effects
Flatulence (very common), diarrhoea, abdominal pain, transaminase elevation (high doses).
Contraindications & Precautions
