About Nicowell-5 Tablet
Nicowell-5 Tablet contains Nicorandil 5 mg. Nicorandil has dual vasodilatory action: it activates ATP-sensitive potassium channels (K-ATP) in vascular smooth muscle, and contains a nitrate moiety releasing nitric oxide.
Indicated for chronic stable angina — particularly useful as add-on therapy in patients with persistent symptoms despite optimal beta-blocker/calcium-channel-blocker therapy.

Mechanism of Action
Nicorandil activates ATP-sensitive K+ channels in vascular smooth muscle, producing hyperpolarisation and relaxation. Additionally, its nitrate side-chain releases nitric oxide, activating guanylate cyclase and causing further vasodilation. The dual mechanism gives both arterial and venous dilation, reducing preload and afterload.
