Mechanism of Action
Halobetasol Propionate is a super-potent corticosteroid that binds intracellular glucocorticoid receptors and powerfully suppresses local inflammation, vasodilation and keratinocyte hyperproliferation. Salicylic Acid is a beta-hydroxy keratolytic that dissolves desmosomes in the stratum corneum, debulking thick plaques and improving steroid penetration.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer to affected plaques once or twice daily
- Maximum 2 weeks of continuous use
- Do not use on face or intertriginous areas
- Do not cover with occlusive dressing
Side Effects
- Skin atrophy with prolonged use
- Telangiectasia
- Striae
- Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression (with large surface area)
- Skin irritation from salicylic acid
Contraindications
- Long-term continuous use
- Face or intertriginous areas
- Children under 12
- Open wounds
- Salicylate or steroid hypersensitivity
