Mechanism of Action

Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 300–400 mg/day, monitor serum levels.
- Children: weight-based.
Side Effects
- Gingival hyperplasia, hirsutism, coarse facies, ataxia, nystagmus (at toxic levels), megaloblastic anaemia (folate deficiency), osteomalacia (Vit D deficiency), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (HLA-B*1502 carriers).
Contraindications
- Sinus bradycardia, heart block, hypersensitivity to hydantoins, porphyria.
