Mechanism of Action
Levosalbutamol selectively activates beta-2 adrenergic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle → cAMP elevation → bronchodilation. R-enantiomer provides bronchodilation while minimising S-enantiomer's pro-inflammatory and cardiac effects.
Dosage & Administration
- Children 6–11 years: 1 respule (0.63 mg) nebulised every 6–8 hours.
Side Effects
- Tachycardia, tremor (less than racemic salbutamol), hypokalaemia, nervousness.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity, severe cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism.
