About Acomust-100 Tablet
Acomust-100 Tablet contains Acotiamide Hydrochloride 100 mg, a novel gastro-prokinetic agent specifically developed for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD), a common and often under-treated upper-GI disorder characterised by postprandial fullness, early satiety and epigastric discomfort.
Unlike conventional prokinetics that act centrally on dopamine receptors (with attendant extrapyramidal risk), Acotiamide works peripherally on the enteric nervous system. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase in the upper gastrointestinal tract and antagonises pre-synaptic muscarinic M1 and M2 autoreceptors, increasing the release of acetylcholine and improving gastric accommodation and emptying without affecting cardiac repolarisation.
Acomust-100 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions and is available for PCD pharma franchise, third-party manufacturing and export. As a postprandial-distress-syndrome-specific therapy, Acotiamide is a high-margin addition to any gastroenterology range.
Indications
- Functional dyspepsia — particularly the postprandial-distress subtype
- Early satiety, postprandial fullness, upper abdominal bloating
- Non-erosive reflux disease with delayed gastric emptying
- Idiopathic gastroparesis under specialist supervision
Mechanism of Action
Acotiamide is a peripheral acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and a muscarinic M1/M2 autoreceptor antagonist. By blocking presynaptic muscarinic autoreceptors and preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, it enhances cholinergic neurotransmission in the enteric nervous system, improving gastric accommodation and antral motility.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 100 mg orally three times daily before meals, for 4 weeks. Re-evaluate response after 4 weeks. To be prescribed by a physician.
Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Reported adverse effects include diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, and rarely raised hepatic enzymes.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to acotiamide or any excipient. Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Not recommended in pregnancy and lactation unless clearly necessary.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
