About Barcid-MPS Suspension
Barcid-MPS Suspension is a triple-action liquid antacid containing Aluminium Hydroxide 250 mg, Magnesium Hydroxide 250 mg and Simethicone per 5 ml. The combination provides rapid neutralisation of gastric acid plus relief from associated flatulence — addressing the two most common symptoms of acid dyspepsia simultaneously.
Aluminium hydroxide neutralises gastric acid slowly but persistently and may have mild constipating effect. Magnesium hydroxide provides faster neutralisation with mild laxative effect — the two balance each other to minimise GI side effects. Simethicone is a silicone-based anti-foaming agent that reduces surface tension of gas bubbles in the GI tract, allowing them to coalesce and pass.

Mechanism of Action
Aluminium and magnesium hydroxides react with gastric HCl to form their respective chlorides plus water, raising gastric pH within minutes. Simethicone lowers surface tension of intestinal foam, allowing gas bubbles to merge and be expelled — relieving bloating and flatulence.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 10–15 ml three to four times daily, preferably 1 hour after meals and at bedtime. Children: 5 ml three times daily as advised by physician. Shake well before use.
Side Effects
Mild constipation (aluminium) or mild diarrhoea (magnesium) — usually self-balancing. Rare: hypermagnesaemia in renal impairment, aluminium accumulation in prolonged use with renal failure.
Contraindications & Precautions
Severe renal impairment (risk of aluminium/magnesium accumulation). Hypophosphataemia. Concomitant tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron, or other drugs requiring acidic pH (give 2 hours apart). Hypersensitivity.
