About Amoxirut-500 Capsule

Amoxirut-500 Capsule contains Amoxicillin 500 mg, the standard adult strength for broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic therapy. Amoxicillin is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics in Indian general practice, with excellent activity against the major community-acquired pathogens of the respiratory tract, ENT, urinary tract and skin.

The 500 mg three-times-daily regimen achieves serum concentrations comfortably above the MIC of susceptible pathogens for the majority of the dosing interval, supporting time-dependent killing characteristic of beta-lactam antibiotics. The 20 x 10 institutional pack makes it suited to high-volume general practice and hospital outpatient use.

Amoxirut-500 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions and is one of the company’s flagship antibiotic SKUs. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.

Indications

  • Community-acquired pneumonia, acute bronchitis, acute exacerbations of COPD
  • Otitis media, sinusitis, streptococcal pharyngitis
  • Dental abscess and odontogenic infections
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Helicobacter pylori eradication (triple/quadruple therapy)

Mechanism of Action

Amoxicillin binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on bacterial cell walls and inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. This weakens the bacterial cell wall, causing osmotic lysis of actively dividing organisms. The aminopenicillin side chain extends activity to many gram-negative organisms beyond classical penicillin spectrum.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 500 mg three times daily (every 8 hours) for 5–7 days; longer for severe or complicated infections. Adjust dose in renal impairment. Take with or without food.

Side Effects

Nausea, diarrhoea, mild skin rash (more frequent than placebo). Less commonly: pseudomembranous colitis with prolonged use, allergic skin reactions. Rare: anaphylaxis, hepatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, interstitial nephritis, haematological abnormalities.

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins or any beta-lactam antibiotic. Infectious mononucleosis (high rate of rash). History of severe allergic reaction. Caution in renal impairment and on combined hormonal contraceptives.

Storage

Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
