About Cefiza-O Kid DT Tablet
Cefiza-O Kid DT Tablet provides Cefixime 100 mg with Ofloxacin 100 mg in a paediatric dispersible tablet — broader spectrum than plain cefixime, with the dispersible format suited to older children who can manage tablet dispersion in water.
The combination is reserved for paediatric infections suspected to have mixed gram-positive/gram-negative aetiology or where prior therapy has failed — under specialist guidance only, given fluoroquinolone-related considerations.
Cefiza-O Kid DT is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis (streptococcal)
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated UTI and cystitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single dose)
- Typhoid fever (uncomplicated)
- Paediatric mixed-flora infections (specialist use)
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins. Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase.
Dosage & Administration
Children: as advised by paediatrician based on weight. Disperse in water and drink the suspension.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (relatively common), nausea, abdominal pain, mild skin rash. Less common: hypersensitivity reactions, transient elevation of liver enzymes. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, severe skin reactions, anaphylaxis. Fluoroquinolone-class effects (rare at paediatric doses with short courses).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy (cross-reactivity ~10%). Renal impairment requires dose adjustment. History of GI disease (caution). Tendon disorder history. Quinolone hypersensitivity.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
