About Ceftru-CV 200 Tablet

Ceftru-CV 200 Tablet provides Cefpodoxime 200 mg with Clavulanic Acid 125 mg — the high-strength combination for severe bacterial infections in adults caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms. Used for complicated community-acquired pneumonia, severe sinusitis, complicated skin/soft-tissue infections and complicated UTI.

The standard adult cefpodoxime dose paired with maximum tolerated clavulanate provides effective enzyme inhibition for the higher antibiotic dose — making this combination useful when first-line therapy has failed or in regions with very high beta-lactamase prevalence.

Ceftru-CV 200 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-value specialty antibiotic SKU.

Indications

  • Complicated community-acquired pneumonia
  • Severe sinusitis with beta-lactamase prevalence
  • Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
  • Complicated UTI with prior antibiotic exposure
  • Animal/human bite wound infections

Mechanism of Action

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains. Clavulanate inhibits beta-lactamases.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1 tablet twice daily for 7–14 days. Take with food.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%). Increased GI upset due to clavulanate.

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease. History of cholestatic jaundice with clavulanate.

Storage

Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
