About Ceftru Drops
Ceftru Drops contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 25 mg/ml in a paediatric drop format with calibrated dropper. Cefpodoxime is an oral third-generation cephalosporin with broader gram-negative spectrum than cefuroxime, useful for paediatric otitis media, sinusitis and UTI — particularly in regions with high beta-lactamase prevalence.
The drop format allows accurate weight-based dosing in infants, with the calibrated dropper ensuring no risk of under- or over-dosing typical with larger syrup volumes.
Ceftru Drops is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Paediatric acute otitis media
- Acute sinusitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Uncomplicated UTI in infants
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains.
Dosage & Administration
Infants: 10 mg/kg/day in two divided doses by calibrated dropper for 5–10 days. As advised by paediatrician.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease.
