About Ceftru-CV Dry Syrup

Ceftru-CV Dry Syrup combines Cefpodoxime 50 mg with Clavulanic Acid 31.25 mg per 5 ml. The clavulanate addition extends cefpodoxime’s already broad spectrum to fully cover beta-lactamase-producing organisms — particularly important in recurrent paediatric otitis media and sinusitis.

The combination is preferred in regions with high beta-lactamase prevalence or in children with recent antibiotic exposure.

Ceftru-CV Dry Syrup is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.

Indications

  • Recurrent paediatric otitis media
  • Acute paediatric sinusitis
  • Lower respiratory tract infections with beta-lactamase suspicion
  • Paediatric pneumonia with prior antibiotic exposure

Mechanism of Action

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains. Clavulanate inhibits bacterial beta-lactamases.

Dosage & Administration

Children: 10 mg/kg/day of cefpodoxime in two divided doses for 5–10 days. Reconstitute with supplied water; refrigerate after reconstitution.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%). Increased GI upset due to clavulanate.

Contraindications & Precautions

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease. History of cholestatic jaundice with clavulanate.

Storage

Dry powder below 30 °C. After reconstitution, refrigerate and use within 10 days.
