About Cefalact-250 DT Tablet
Cefalact-250 DT contains Cephalexin 250 mg in a dispersible tablet that dissolves rapidly in water for easy administration. The dispersible format is preferred for older children, adults with swallowing difficulty, and prescribers wanting tablet-form Cephalexin with paediatric-friendly delivery.
Cephalexin remains a workhorse oral cephalosporin for skin/soft-tissue infections, streptococcal pharyngitis, mild UTI and post-surgical prophylaxis. Its excellent gram-positive coverage and well-established paediatric safety profile keep it on most national antibiotic stewardship lists.
Cefalact-250 DT is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Skin and soft-tissue infections (cellulitis, impetigo)
- Streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis
- Mild urinary tract infections
- Post-surgical infection prophylaxis
- Otitis media in older children
Mechanism of Action
Cephalexin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocking the final peptidoglycan cross-linking step. Selective for gram-positive organisms; some gram-negative coverage. Concentration-dependent bactericidal effect on dividing bacteria.

Contraindications & Precautions
