About Febucam-40 Tablet
Febucam-40 Tablet contains Febuxostat 40 mg — a non-purine selective xanthine oxidase inhibitor for chronic management of hyperuricaemia in patients with gout. More potent than allopurinol and effective in patients with allopurinol intolerance.
Long-term therapy for gout prevention. Not for acute gout flares (Etoricoxib/colchicine used instead).

Mechanism of Action
Febuxostat selectively inhibits xanthine oxidase (both oxidised and reduced forms), blocking conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid. Lower uric acid prevents urate crystal deposition.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 40 mg once daily; increase to 80 mg if target uric acid not achieved.
Side Effects
Liver enzyme elevation, GI upset, rash, gout flare during initiation. Possible cardiovascular events (FDA boxed warning).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Concurrent azathioprine, mercaptopurine (severe interaction). Severe hepatic impairment.
