About Gatirut Eye Drops
Gatirut Eye Drops contains the 4th-generation fluoroquinolone Gatifloxacin 0.3% in a buffered ophthalmic solution preserved with Benzalkonium Chloride 0.02% v/v.
It is indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis, bacterial keratitis, blepharitis and as antibacterial prophylaxis for ocular surgery. The 8-methoxy substitution gives it broader Gram-positive and anaerobic coverage than earlier fluoroquinolones.
Camrut Healthcare manufactures Gatirut Eye Drops under WHO-GMP injectable conditions for PCD pharma franchise across India.
Indications
- Bacterial conjunctivitis
- Bacterial keratitis
- Blepharitis
- Pre-operative ocular surgery prophylaxis
- Hordeolum (stye, adjunctive)
Mechanism of Action
Gatifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. The 8-methoxy group and dual enzyme targeting reduce the risk of resistance and extend coverage to Gram-positive cocci, atypical pathogens and anaerobes compared to earlier-generation fluoroquinolones.

['Adults and children > 1 year: 1 drop every 2 hours for 2 days (acute phase)', 'Then 1 drop 4 times daily for 5 more days', 'Apply pressure to inner canthus to reduce systemic absorption', 'Use under ophthalmologist supervision']

['Transient stinging on instillation', 'Conjunctival irritation', 'Punctate keratitis with prolonged use', 'Bitter taste']
Contraindications & Precautions
['Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones', 'Viral or fungal ocular infections', 'Wearing soft contact lenses during treatment', 'Children under 1 year']
