About Glicam-4 Tablet
Glicam-4 Tablet contains Glimepiride 4 mg, a third-generation sulphonylurea designed for once-daily dosing in type-2 diabetes mellitus. The drug has lower hypoglycaemia risk than older sulphonylureas and minimal weight-gain effect.
It is indicated as monotherapy or in combination with metformin for adult patients with type-2 diabetes inadequately controlled by lifestyle measures alone.

Mechanism of Action
Glimepiride closes ATP-sensitive K+ channels on pancreatic beta-cell membranes (via the SUR1 receptor subunit), depolarising the cell and triggering calcium-mediated insulin exocytosis. It has lower binding to extra-pancreatic SUR2 isoforms compared to glibenclamide, giving a better cardiovascular profile.
