About Metrofix-400 Tablet

Mechanism of Action
Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole prodrug — activated by bacterial/protozoal reductases to form cytotoxic nitro radical anions that damage DNA. Active against obligate anaerobes (Bacteroides, Clostridium), microaerophiles (H. pylori), and protozoa (Giardia, Entamoeba, Trichomonas).
Dosage & Administration
Amoebiasis: 400–800 mg three times daily x 7–10 days. BV: 400 mg twice daily x 7 days. Anaerobic infections: 400–500 mg three times daily.
Side Effects
Metallic taste, nausea, GI upset, headache, neuropathy with prolonged use, disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol.
Contraindications & Precautions
First trimester pregnancy, lactation, severe hepatic impairment, history of blood dyscrasia, alcohol consumption.
