Therapeutic Indications
- Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (stroke prevention)
- Deep vein thrombosis treatment and secondary prevention

Mechanism of Action
Rivaroxaban is a direct selective inhibitor of activated factor Xa (FXa), blocking the prothrombinase complex and thrombin generation. Unlike warfarin, it has rapid onset, predictable pharmacokinetics and does not require routine INR monitoring.
Dosage & Administration
- AF: 20 mg once daily with food
- DVT/PE acute treatment: 15 mg twice daily for 3 weeks then 20 mg once daily
- Hip/knee replacement prophylaxis: 10 mg once daily
- Take 20 mg/15 mg doses with food

- Bleeding (major and minor)

- Elevated liver enzymes (rare)

Contraindications
- Active clinically significant bleeding
- Severe hepatic disease with coagulopathy
