About Barcid-OX Suspension
Barcid-OX Suspension is a higher-strength antacid that adds Oxetacaine — a topical local anaesthetic — to the conventional aluminium/magnesium/simethicone formulation. The Oxetacaine component provides immediate symptomatic relief of mucosal pain from peptic ulcers, oesophagitis and gastritis by anaesthetising the inflamed gastric mucosa.
The 600 mg + 300 mg aluminium/magnesium dose offers stronger acid neutralisation than the standard MPS formulation, suited to patients with significant ulcer-related pain or severe reflux. Oxetacaine has a long duration of action and minimal systemic absorption, making it ideal for localised pain control in upper GI mucosal disease.
Barcid-OX is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a higher-margin gastro SKU.
Indications
- Peptic ulcer disease with mucosal pain
- Severe heartburn and reflux oesophagitis
- Gastritis and gastric mucosal pain
- Symptomatic dyspepsia with prominent mucosal pain
- Adjunct to acid-suppressive therapy in painful ulcers
Mechanism of Action
Aluminium and magnesium hydroxides neutralise gastric acid. Simethicone reduces foam and gas bubbles in the gut. Oxetacaine is a long-acting amide local anaesthetic that blocks sodium channels in sensory nerve endings of the gastric mucosa, providing prolonged topical pain relief.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 10 ml three to four times daily, preferably 15 minutes before meals and at bedtime, or as advised by physician. Shake well before use.
Side Effects
Mild constipation or diarrhoea (balanced by aluminium/magnesium combination). Local numbness of mouth/throat from Oxetacaine (transient). Rare: hypersensitivity to local anaesthetic, methemoglobinaemia (very rare).
Contraindications & Precautions
Severe renal impairment. Hypersensitivity to oxetacaine or other amide anaesthetics. Concurrent absorption-sensitive medications (give 2 hours apart). Caution in patients on anticoagulants (possible interaction).
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place. Shake well before use.
