About Lopawise-2 Tablet
Lopawise-2 Tablet contains Loperamide 2 mg — the standard symptomatic anti-diarrhoeal for acute non-infective diarrhoea, traveller’s diarrhoea (with antibiotic adjunct), IBS-D, and chronic diarrhoea from ileal resection.
Loperamide is a peripheral mu-opioid agonist that does not cross the blood-brain barrier — providing anti-diarrhoeal effect without CNS opioid effects.

Mechanism of Action
Loperamide binds peripheral mu-opioid receptors on intestinal myenteric plexus — slowing intestinal transit, increasing water and electrolyte reabsorption, increasing anal sphincter tone. P-glycoprotein efflux at BBB prevents CNS effects at therapeutic doses.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 2 mg after each loose stool, maximum 16 mg/day. Children >6 years: 1–2 mg with reduced maximum.
Side Effects
Constipation, abdominal cramps, drowsiness, dizziness. Rare paralytic ileus.
Contraindications & Precautions
Active dysentery, ulcerative colitis flare, C. difficile colitis, children below 2 years, abdominal distension.
