About Macral-Z Soap

Macral-Z Soap combines two complementary antifungals — Ketoconazole 1% and Zinc Pyrithione (ZPTO) 1% — in a cleansing bar. The dual mechanism enhances activity against Malassezia in seborrhoeic and pityriasis versicolor states.

Indicated for tinea versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis of body, and adjunctive use in scalp seborrhoea.

Mechanism of Action

Ketoconazole inhibits fungal 14-α-demethylase, blocking conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of toxic sterol intermediates disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity, producing fungistatic and fungicidal effect. Particularly active against Malassezia (seborrhoeic dermatitis, tinea versicolor) and dermatophytes. Zinc Pyrithione has direct fungicidal activity against Malassezia by disrupting the cell membrane and chelating iron-containing enzymes; it also has antibacterial activity.
