About Ambrojoy Drops
Ambrojoy Drops contain Ambroxol Hydrochloride 7.5 mg/ml in a child-friendly paediatric drop format with a graduated dropper. It is used in infants and young children for the symptomatic relief of productive cough and respiratory-tract disorders where airway clearance is impaired by thick, viscid mucus.
Ambroxol is the active metabolite of bromhexine and is one of the most widely used mucolytic agents worldwide. It works by breaking the disulphide bonds in mucoprotein fibres, decreasing mucus viscosity and elasticity. It also stimulates pulmonary surfactant production by alveolar type-II cells, improving alveolar mechanics and mucociliary clearance.
Ambrojoy Drops are manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions in paediatric facilities, with accurate dropper-based dosing for infants. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Productive cough in infants and children
- Acute and chronic bronchitis with mucus hypersecretion
- Bronchiolitis with viscid secretions
- Asthma with mucus plugging (adjunct)
- Preventive use in respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn (specialist use)
Mechanism of Action
Ambroxol breaks disulphide bonds within acid mucopolysaccharide fibres of bronchial mucus, reducing mucus viscosity. It stimulates type-II pneumocytes to secrete pulmonary surfactant, lowering alveolar surface tension. It also enhances ciliary beat frequency, accelerating mucociliary transport and easing expectoration.
Dosage & Administration

Generally well tolerated. Possible mild GI upset, nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea. Rare: hypersensitivity reactions, skin rash, mucosal reactions (Stevens-Johnson, TEN — very rare).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to ambroxol or bromhexine. Use with caution in severe hepatic or renal impairment. Avoid concomitant antitussives (which suppress cough and prevent mucus expectoration). Discontinue at first sign of skin lesion or mucosal reaction.
